Mantle in the UK: Midland Actors Theatre

Tasks to complete the commission included: researching Indian cities; preparing a tourist brochure on the cities, tourist amenities, local sights etc.; finding out about Indian food (and making some)

Ways-in

We looked at a ground plan of an airport, and worked out all the different sections (check-in, security etc.). We also decided what route a passenger would take, from check-in to the airplane.

Building the 'Frame'

Tasks included: helping a customer flying to Paris to plan their route to the airport, with train connections etc. This included taking into account the time difference in Paris (maths). Undertaking staff training on how to reassure customers who are scared of flying .

Introducing the 'commission' and the 'client'

The commission came in the form of a letter from the Indian Embassy in London, inviting Sky Jet 7 to tender for a contract to run new air routes to cities in India.

The 'publication'

The class made a powerpoint presentation to a representative of the Indian Embassy (teacher in role). Parents were invited to the event which also included food prepared by the class. The final outcome was that Sky Jet 7 was awarded the contract to run the new airline routes!
